Join us and Porirua City Council on Saturday 29 June at Belmont Regional Park to celebrate Matariki weekend by planting native grasses and trees to restore and enhance the mauri of an important waterway.

This community event organised in collaboration with Porirua City Council and Ngāti Toa Rangatira is an opportunity to meet other passionate locals while we work towards restoring our streams, on a planting day aligned with the Matariki maramataka/calendar.

What to bring:

  • Gumboots or sturdy closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy
  • Warm and waterproof clothing
  • Sun hat and sunscreen
  • Reusable water bottle

We will provide:

  • Plants and planting tools
  • Kai
  • First Aid Trained Staff
  • Sunscreen

Public toilets can be found on site.

Getting there:

There is vehicle access and limited parking available up the Waitangirua Farm driveway. Other attendees can park on Waihora Cres or in the Waihora Park carpark and catch a ride to the planting site on one of the vehicles making regular trips from the street to the site.

Bus 220 also stops along Warspite Avenue which is walking distance to the planting site.

Event sign up/admin will be from 11.45am with the event running from 12pm – 4pm. We appreciate you giving up your time to do some great mahi for Papatūānuku. Feel free to spread the word to whānau and friends to join you on the day! You will receive an email from Porirua City Council 24 hours prior to the event regarding the confirmation of the event or any changes due to weather.

To register for this event please email streamside.planting@poriruacity.govt.nz with your name and the number of people attending.
