
Light pollution in towns and cities washes-out our view of the night sky. Only the brightest stars can be seen. Light pollution also disrupts the normal day-night cycle of living plants and animals.
Greater Wellington’s regional parks help to preserve dark skies for the natural world, and they provide incredible places to experience the beauty of stargazing.
Wainuiomata Regional Park is on its way to achieving Dark Sky Place accreditation. If successful, Wainuiomata Regional Park would be the closest Dark Sky Place to a city anywhere in the world.
