We want your help to shape how we work with the rivers across the Ruamāhanga catchment, to keep communities safe from flooding.

Greater Wellington is responsible for managing the flood risk from major rivers and streams in the Wairarapa. Local voices play an important role in this. To allow for local advice on the management of flood and erosion risks, the following Advisory Groups have been established:

  • The Upper Ruamāhanga Advisory Group
  • The Waiōhine Advisory Group
  • The Lower Ruamāhanga Group

We are looking for members to join each Advisory Group for the current triennium (2025 – 2028).

This is one of two open nights in Wairarapa to meet staff, learn about what’s involved in the advisory groups, and ask questions to aid in the application process.

The first event is in Masterton on 17 Feb.

What to expect at an open night

Open nights will start with a short presentation to give an overview of the advisory group areas and the topics covered by each of the three groups. We’ll tell you what you can expect if you become a member of one of these groups.

The presentation is followed by a chance to have a cup of tea and chat with Greater Wellington staff.

Applications open from 9-27 February 2026
