Council has reappointed Nigel Corry as Greater Wellington Chief Executive following a formal performance review process led by its Chief Executive Employment Committee.

Greater Wellington Chair Daran Ponter said the decision reflects the Council’s confidence in Mr Corry’s leadership and performance.

“The Chief Executive Employment Committee has completed a comprehensive review of Nigel Corry’s performance and Council has agreed to reappoint him as Chief Executive,” Mr Ponter said.

“Nigel has provided strong, steady leadership for the organisation, delivering on council priorities while navigating a complex and evolving local government environment. The Council was satisfied that his performance continues to meet, and in many areas exceed, expectations.”

Mr Ponter said the reappointment process was undertaken in accordance with the Local Government Act 2002, which governs the appointment of local authority chief executives.

“Under the Act, councils appoint chief executives for a maximum term of five years. In the final year of the first term of appointment, council must review performance and decide whether to appoint the chief executive to a further term up to two years without advertising, or to begin a new recruitment process,” he said.

“In this instance, following a thorough and robust review, the Council on the recommendation of the Chief Executive Employment Committee, determined that reappointment was in the best interests of Greater Wellington and the region, ” added Cr Ponter.

Chair of the Chief Executive Employment Committee, Cr Simon Woolf, said continuity of leadership would support the organisation as it continues to deliver essential services and progress key priorities for the Wellington Region.

“The Council’s decision provides stability and certainty for the organisation at an important time, and we look forward to continuing to work with Nigel in his role as Chief Executive,” said Cr Woolf.
