Event details
Bring the family along for a magical night under the stars at Wainuiomata Regional Park and help us celebrate the opening of the brand-new Dark Sky Museum!
Set away from city lights, Wainuiomata Regional Park offers a superb dark sky location for stargazing. This special FREE dark sky experience begins with the official opening of the Dark Sky Museum, where you’ll learn about the wonders of the night sky and why protecting our dark skies from light pollution matters.
After exploring the museum, step outside to meet expert stargazers from Wellington Astronomical Society who will guide you through the night sky. With the help of telescopes, you’ll be able to spot stars, planets, constellations, and other celestial highlights visible on the night, including favourites of the southern sky.
Marshmallow toasting, hot drinks and a fun glow wall activity will be available to keep everyone warm and entertained between telescope viewings, making this a relaxed and family-friendly evening for all ages.
Come along to discover the beauty of the cosmos, learn something new, and celebrate this exciting new dark sky destination—no experience needed.
This is a free event, however numbers are limited and booking is essential.
