Haere mai, welcome to Battle Hill Farm Forest Park

Location 610 Paekakariki Hill Road, Pauatahanui, Porirua

This is a great spot for a day out, picnics and camping. It has 500 hectares of rolling paddocks, native bush and forestry, plus an indoor arena for Riding for the Disabled.

Activities

Description

Pitch your tent and toast marshmallows over an open campfire. Visit the historic battle site, farm animals and feed the native eels - they love sardines but just watch your fingers! There are trails suited for hooves, feet, bikes and baby buggies, with views of Pāuatahanui inlet and the new Transmission Gully motorway.

Know before you go

  • Clean drinking water is available.
  • Dogs are not allowed anywhere in the park, including in cars, as there is a working farm in the park.
  • There is cellphone coverage in the park.
  • Pollen levels are often high. Carry appropriate medication if you have a pollen allergy.
  • Ongaonga (native stinging nettle) is present in the park. Please take care.
  • Fireworks are banned in all Regional Parks and Forests.
  • Do not disturb the farm animals grazing in this park as these animals are protected.
  • Please use gates and stiles. Leave gates as you find them.

Getting there

By bike

Plan your route with the Kāpiti, Porirua, Tawa cycle map.

By car

From SH1 (northbound or southbound):

Exit onto SH58 westbound via the Pāuatahanui off-ramps.

At the Pāuatahanui roundabout, take the second left into Pāuatahanui Village.

Drive through the village and onto Paekākāriki Hill Road.

Continue for 6 km to reach the main entrance of Battle Hill Farm Forest Park.

From SH59 (Porirua):

Either:

  • Exit at Paremata onto SH58, follow SH58 eastbound to the Pāuatahanui roundabout, then follow directions as above.
  • Or exit SH59 onto Grays Road, drive to the end, and turn left onto Paekākāriki Hill Road.
    Drive 6 km to the park entrance.

Please note:

The Kāpiti end of Paekākāriki Hill Road beyond Battle Hill is not suitable for heavy vehicles.
