“I am absolutely astonished that your council (it's definitely not working for me) has
decided to add to the agony already being experienced by Wellington rate payers for
long-term executive level mismanagement in the region culminating most recently in the
disaster at Moa Point.
I absolutely cannot see how bringing a prosecution against Tiaki Wai and the Wellington
City Council (culpable thought they may be) is going to benefit any of us including the
many businesses that have been hurt on the southern waterfront and will now face even
higher rates as a result of your action.
I understand that any fines received will go to the Greater Wellington Council but for 10
percent to Central Government.
Questions
• How does the Greater Wellington Regional Council expect to benefit the ratepayers
of the region from this action?
• Is the Council concerned that it will add additional costs to the already hard-pressed
ratepayers for no obvious benefit and while the causes of the Moa Point calamity are
under scrutiny anyway?
• Will charges (criminal or otherwise) also be brought against the chief executives of
the respective organisations?
• How much has the GWRC budgeted for the legal action?
• How much has been spent to date?
• Who are the GWRC's legal advisers?
• How many staff have been involved in or working on this prosecution?
• Is there a communication plan for this action? Please provide a copy.
• Is there a communication plan all activities relating to Moa Point regardless of the
current prosecution? Please provide a copy.
• What does the GWRC plan to do with any fines it receives? Have decisions have been
made? By whom? If so, where and when. Is there a plan in place? Please provide a
copy.”
