Walking is an easy, healthy and safe way to travel. By walking for short trips, you’ll help reduce congestion, vehicle emissions and other pollutants.

Some say that walking is the first thing that humans want to do and the last thing anyone wants to give up, and we agree!

Out in nature

We're lucky to have many beautiful places to walk, along rivers and in our regional parks. Keep an eye out on our calendar for Buggy Walks for families with young children. If you have a canine companion, you’ll find they are also welcome in many of our parks.

Building a walking culture in your community

People around the region are also motivated to get out and about on the streets. Our young people are up for the challenge of walking for increased independence, fitness, or to do their bit for climate action. If you are a parent, teacher, or principal, we have excellent resources and events to get even more of our kids moving.

Walking to work – even part of the way

The health benefits of walking are legion. How to fit that in a busy modern lifestyle? Walking might be just the ticket. A 10-20 minute walk to or from the train station or bus stop would help.
