Elected members provide an annual return of personal interests that may intersect with their responsibilities as Councillors.
Members’ personal interests that are separate or remote from their responsibilities, or are no more than the ordinary interests of a ratepayer or a resident, don't need to be disclosed as part of this review.
These returns record two different types of interest:
- Pecuniary (financial) personal interests that are relevant considerations under the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Act 1968
- Non-pecuniary personal interests that may create potential, actual, or perceived conflicts relating to bias and pre-determination.
