An effective transport network is the lifeblood of the Wellington region.

Making sure that people and freight can move quickly and safely around, and in and out of the region is one of our main responsibilities.

We have high quality, well engineered and safe roads with many scenic walking and cycling routes. We celebrate the highest public transport usage in New Zealand and our ride matching service makes it easy for people to carpool.

All of our transport plans, projects and activities come from the Regional Land Transport Plan.

Getting to Work

Greater Wellington has a range of sustainable transport initiatives available free of charge for workplaces. These are designed to increase numbers of people travelling to work by sustainable modes.
