The Flood Protection Department of Greater Wellington Regional Council invites you to the 2019 Waikanae River Walk.

The annual walkover of the river takes place to:

  • Allow people to identify and discuss issues relating to operations and maintenance works carried out under the operational maintenance resource consent held by our Flood Protection Department;
  • Monitor implementation of the Waikanae Floodplain Management Plan; and
  • View environmental enhancement and restoration works in progress.

Where: Carpark next to Waimanu Lagoon, Tutere Street, Waikanae
Bring: Please bring suitable clothing in case of bad weather, and ensure that you wear sturdy footwear

Getting there:

We will be meeting at the carpark between the Waikanae River and Waimanu Lagoon, at the Waikanae Estuary. This can be accessed from Tutere Street by car or Major Durie Place on foot.

We will starting at 9.00am, so please ensure you arrive slightly beforehand. A light lunch will be provided enroute at midday. We expect to finish the walk no later than 3.00pm at the entrance of Jim Cooke Park. We will have a bus available to take people back to their cars at the estuary.
