Walking, cycling and scooting to school have many benefits for children. They improve independence, physical and mental health, decision making, risk assessment and road safety skills.
Greater Wellington Regional Council provides tools and resources for schools to promote safe and active travel and address congestion and safety issues around the school gate.
School Travel Plans: School Travel Plan coordinators work with schools to develop actions for promoting safe and active travel
School’s Active Travel Toolkit: guides to promoting fun and easy active travel initiatives in schools
Resources: links to useful road safety and environmental resources for parents and schools
Movin’March: annual event celebrating families who walk, cycle and scooter to school
Movin’Magazine: annual publication showcasing road safety and active travel stories from schools around the region
Pedal Ready: cycle skills training available free to all schools within the region.
