Civil Defence - Emergency Management

Updated 17 October 2018 9:11am

Living in such a beautiful and risk-prone area means we need systems and organisations to help us prepare. That’s where the Wellington Region Emergency Management Office or WREMO comes in.

What is WREMO?

WREMO is the group that coordinates Civil Defence and emergency management services on behalf of Greater Wellington and the eight other councils in the region. WREMO was established in 2012. Greater Wellington funds 80% of WREMO’s work.

WREMO recognises that in a major disaster, we need to be able to support each other in our own communities. A core aspect of WREMO’s work  focuses on helping communities realise their capacity to  play a lead role in responding to and recovering from natural and man-made emergencies.

WREMO also supplies essential information on how individuals, families and organisations can get better prepared for a disaster.

For more information on how you can get prepared, see WREMO’s Get Prepared website.
