Friends of the Waikanae River AGM
The Friends of the Waikanae River is a volunteer group that is working to improve the environment of the Waikanae River corridor.
Everyone is invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Friends.
Last year’s work by the Friends will be reviewed and future projects outlined.
Following the business of the meeting, guest speaker Russell Death - Professor Freshwater Ecology, Massey University, will present “Can we have our river and swim in it too: the challenge of managing floods and protecting instream life”. Russell’s talk will discuss some of the research they have conducted at Massey University on how to balance the need to engineer rivers to prevent flood damage to people and their property while at the same time also prevent the loss of valuable habitat for our native and threatened river wildlife.
A light supper will be served after the AGM.
