The Waiwhetu Stream Working Group (WSWG) was set up to consult on and discuss weed issues in the Waiwhetu Stream. It consists of representatives from the local community, Iwi, Department of Conservation, Fish and Game, Hutt District Health Board, Hutt City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council.
After the flooding in 2004, the WSWG took on another role to help tackle flooding issues, which lead to involvement in seeing the completion of the Waiwhetu Remediation and Widening and Deepening Project.
Now that the Waiwhetu Project is complete, the WSWG may change focus again to become a joint community and officer group for development of the Waiwhetu and Awamutu Floodplain Management Plan. It is anticipated that the WSWG will become the route through which feedback from community groups will be directed, and the 'leaders or representatives' of these community groups sitting on the WSWG.
