Kia Eke Paihikara Tātou | Greater Welly Bike Fest

Updated 10 December 2020 11:23am

October is the month to celebrate all things bike. Whether you’re dusting off your bike to get into summer riding, have discovered the joy of riding on an e-bike, or want to get the kids to school without all the hassle of finding a car park; the BikeFest 2020 has something for you.

Our theme for 2020 is safety on your bike, and security of your bike. We have lots of tips and tricks to share about how to keep you and your bike safe while you’re moving around the region.

Thanks to the team at Pedal Ready we have a $5000 e-bike package to give away to one lucky person, along with bike shop vouchers, cycle skills sessions, and other goodies!

With a series of events around the region, we want to make riding a bike as easy and fun as possible. We have:

  • Fix ups to check and tune your bike
  • Family bike days where tamariki can learn new skills and build their confidence
  • E-bike tasters for those who want to try out the electric ride
  • Cycle skills courses for those wanting to ride around the city, or learn to ride
  • Casual rides to enjoy all the beauty Wellington region has to offer

To launch the festival, our leaders will lead rides of their own in a new event, Eke Paika – Haere! Join them to discover their favourite routes or destinations, or hear what’s planned for the future of your area. Find all of the events on our events calendar.

To wrap up another fabulous month, the much loved Go by Bike Day will be held under the sails on the waterfront thanks to Wellington City Council. Join us for a free breakfast, games, bike checks, and more, with our favourite local ‘police officer’ Karen O’Leary keeping everyone in order.

Registrations are required for many events and under Covid level 2, may be required for all. Postponements and cancellations will be noted on the event Facebook page.
