An airshed is a geographic area used for measuring air quality to compare against the national environmental standards for air quality. All monitored airsheds meet the national environmental standards, apart from Masterton, which fails the PM10 standard due to emissions from winter home fires.

There are eight airsheds in the Wellington region:
