The Wellington region's rivers, streams and aquifers help drive the area’s economy, and are valued for recreational, aesthetic, ecological and cultural reasons. Greater Wellington’s (GW) role is to manage the abstraction and taking of water so it is available for all these values. On these pages you can find information about Greater Wellington’s work in this area, including information about current resource consents in the region, the findings of the Wairarapa Valley Groundwater Investigation and what they mean for water take consenting, water metering compliance with new national regulations and information about restrictions on water takes.
