Valuing our environment - Te Upoko Taiao
Greater Wellington is developing a new regional plan to look after our natural resources - air, soils, coasts, waterways, wetlands and lakes - and all the native plants, animals, fish and insects that make up our biodiversity.
We want to find out your views. Participate in a community discussion, complete our online survey. Find out what others think about natural resources.
You can also find out more about the state of our natural resources and Greater Wellington's role in monitoring and managing them or learn about the Te Upoko Taiao Committee set up to oversee the development of a new regional plan.

- Developing a new regional plan
-
Air, waterways, soils, coasts and native plants and animals – these natural resources are vital for our wellbeing and our way of life. Under the Resource Management Act, Greater Wellington is responsible for developing policies that guide how these natural resources are sustainably used and developed, and protected. These policies are contained in five regional plans - freshwater, soils, air quality, discharges to land and coastal. We are embarking on a review of these current plans and we want your views on how we can do better.

Aside from encouraging, guiding, and strengthening natural resource management in the Wellington Region; Greater Wellington also monitors the state of those resources - soils, waterways, lakes, wetlands, coastline and marine areas, air and biological diversity (including plants, birds, lizards, fish, and insects). On this page you can find out more about what we do and how successful we are in our efforts to manage the environment in a sustainable way.
