Tell us your views on protecting Jim Cooke Park
GWRC would like to thank all who turned out to our recent Open Day on the reconstruction of the Waikanae River’s Jim Cooke Park stopbank. We really enjoyed meeting people from the community and hope we provided food for thought about how to best provide protection from flooding.
The meeting was held to help inform the community of options GWRC is looking at to upgrade the stopbanks along Jim Cooke Park. The council is looking for community input on what measures you would like taken.
You can tell us your views by completing and posting the feedback form at the back of the second Jim Cooke Park stopbank reconstruction newsletter, or by completing our online form at www.gw.govt.nz/current-andupcomingprojects/
The questions we’d like you to consider include:
• Do you agree that the Jim Cooke Park stopbank should be reconstructed to better protect from flooding?
• Are there any additional issues or opportunities that GWRC should consider in relation to this project?
• Do you have any suggestions about how we could enhance the Waikanae River environment and make the river a better place for people to visit?
Copies of the newsletter and forms are also available from the library.
Submissions close at 5:00pm on Friday 15 September.
