Environmental Education
Greater Wellington's Take Action programme is an innovative and exciting Environmental Education programme to help primary and intermediate school students (year 5-8) investigate about and explore their local environment.
Students not only learn about environmental issues, they do something about them. Take Action empowers young people to become environmental role models by making a real difference in their schools, families and communities.
How does Greater Wellington support the Take Action programme?
Take Action is facilitated by the Environmental Educators at Greater Wellington Regional Council and is free to all schools in the Greater Wellington region. The programmes consist of comprehensive teaching and learning resources and significant financial support to assist schools to take action.
The Take Action team will guide you through the programme with teacher training, support on ‘explore’ days and on-going assistance with inquiry based action project work.
Why should my class participate in Take Action?
The programme is hands on, based on the Guidelines for Environmental Education for New Zealand Schools and integrated into the new curriculum.
The UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development began in 2005 so this is a great time to get your students involved in environmental education.
If you would like to know more about the Take Action programme, please contact the Take Action Co-ordinator by email or phone 04 830 4030.
