| For the past eighteen months or more, members of the group have worked closely with the Hutt City Council; beginning to weed out invasive introduced species, including marram grass, boneseed and ice plant from selected areas and replacing them with native dune species including pingao, köwhangatara and wharariki. Hutt City Council assistance to the group has included providing plants, weed disposal and expert advice.
The group has also worked closely with the Global Volunteer Network, whose volunteers are doing a great job removing invasive tree medick
(Medicago arborea) from the area and helping to plant several hundred pingao. |
