Greater Wellington - Millwood Estate

The care group was formed in 2003 by residents of the Millwood Estate with assistance from Upper Hutt Forest and Bird. The group is working on restoring a section of waste land jointly owned by the Millwood estate residents, adjacent to Hulls Creek between Silverstream Railway Station and the Millwood Estate. Assistance for the project has also come from Upper Hutt Forest and Bird and Greater Wellington Environment staff.

What has the group done?

They have:

prepared a restoration plan
cleared weeds
planted over 750 plants, a variety of native plants including pittosporums, cabbage trees, toetoe and matai.
mulched, watered and looked after all the plants
removed rubbish and railway debris from the site
earthworks to form a sheltering embankment are in progress.

Current activities

Weeding and releasing is an important summer activity to care for the plants. The group also spend a lot of time watering the plants at present.
