 | | | Testing the water for silt |
Established in 2001, the group has between 8-10 very active members, all from the Glenside/ Newlands/ Johnsonville area. Two sites have been planted - the first on Stebbings Stream, just downstream from the Stebbings Dam. Some 1500 riparian plants were successfully planted at this site in the winter of 2002. This first experience of plant selection, establishment and maintenance set the group up for more extensive planting alongside the Porirua Stream during 2003 and 2004. The group have now planted well over 5000 plants at the two sites. During their involvement, group members have gone through a steep learning curve about what species to use, how to successfully grow them and how best to manage individuals in the group's various individual skills to produce a great team planting effort. |
