Environmental Scientist/Senior Environmental Scientist, Hydrology

Are you a top-flight hydrologist looking for an exciting science role to challenge your abilities?

We’re looking for a motivated and positive-minded scientist to stand in for our experienced hydrologist who is taking a year’s parental leave. As an Environmental Scientist or Senior Environmental Scientist specialising in Hydrology, you will join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists working on a wide range of fresh water and other environmental issues, providing quality technical input into the development of our new generation regional plan. You will also oversee reporting of hydrological monitoring and investigations for the Wellington region.

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • A strong grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of hydrology
  • The ability to manage our environmental flows programme and give advice on water allocation
  • Strong analytical skills to assess hydrological and other environmental data, and provide advice on rainfall patterns, low flows and flood flows
  • A demonstrated understanding of the relationship between science and environmental policy (RMA knowledge would be an advantage)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification and work experience.
