The Greater Wellington park rangers work full time in the parks and forests. A designated ranger generally lives in each park, while the forest ranger manages the Akatarawa and Pakuratahi Forests. They are experienced park managers, with extensive knowledge of each park and forest.

Rangers are on hand to provide information, take care of park facilities, educate visitors and look after their safety. Some rangers run courses for schools and other groups, while others guide walks and manage volunteer group planting days. Contact them first with any questions about a particular park or forest.
