For a small fee, large groups (over 25) can pre-book sites at Whareroa and Paekakariki. Please contact the ranger at least two weeks prior to your intended visit. The ranger will issue you a permit and allocate a picnic site.

A "first in first served" arrangement operates for groups of fewer than 25 people. This is free of charge.

•  There are numerous easy walks amongst the coastal dunes.  Please keep to formed tracks.
• The beach is excellent for swimming. Swim between the Paekakariki Surf Club flags in summer. 
• There is a children's playground at Paekakariki. 
• Toilets and drinking water are located near the picnic areas. 
• Light no fires. You are welcome to use a portable gas barbecue. 
• Pack in and pack out. Take your rubbish home and recycle where possible. No rubbish bins are provided. 
• Please keep your dog under control and on a leash in the picnic areas. Remove all droppings. 
• Keep motor vehicles on formed roads and car parks. Keep off the grassed areas and pedestrian trails.
