Forest management plan
Future water collection area
Greater Wellington manages the Akatarawa Forest as a future water collection area to provide fresh, clean healthy water for the region's future generations. In the meantime, the forest provides great places to walk, ride and recreate in and it has important environmental and ecological values.

Copies of the plan are available at either the Upper Hutt or Wellington office. You can also view the draft plan here.

For more information please phone the Parks department on 04 384 5708 during normal business hours or email parks@gw.govt.nz.

Greater Wellington currently uses the Wainuiomata and Hutt catchment areas to provide drinking water to the Hutt, Wellington and Porirua communities. These water catchement areas are excluded from this plan. You can find more information here about Greater Wellington's role in the region's water supply.
