The Wellington region's natural heritage is unique and special, and it needs our help. Our region contains forests, wetlands, dunes and waterways different from other parts of New Zealand - and many of these areas need to be managed to ensure their ongoing survival. Keeping our natural areas and ecosystems healthy helps keep us and our environment healthy. Certain natural areas, if protected, can form important links or "corridors" for native species, enhancing the entire region's environment. Greater Wellington can provide advice and, in some cases, assistance to people wanting to manage, restore and protect natural areas and features on their own land. Whatever type of natural heritage you are interested in helping, you can find out more about it, and what Greater Wellington can do to help. Are you interested in: You can find answers to frequently asked questions here, and if you need to know more you can contact biodiversity@gw.govt.nz. We have prepared a series of booklets about restoring natural heritage. These can be downloaded from the documents sidebar at the right of this screen. If you would like a printed copy of any of these publications, fill out the order form which is also on the sidebar at the right of the screen. |
