Our region - their future
We live in a great place.  The Wellington region has terrific harbours, rivers, mountains and bush.  We also have cities and towns full of character.

But are we taking it all for granted? Will we always be able to drive wherever we want, when we want? Will water keep flowing from the tap? Will future generations enjoy the same clear skies and beautiful beaches that we do today?

The closing date for feedback was 30 June 2006.

What was our region - their future about?

The aim of Our region – their future was to get ideas and feedback so we can prepare the next Regional Policy Statement.

The Regional Policy Statement for the Wellington Region  became operative in May 1995 and Greater Wellington is now required to review it.

The review began with an assessment of the state of the natural and physical resources in the region and how well we have worked towards the objectives in the Regional Policy Statement. The findings from this work were reported in Greater Wellington’s state of the environment report Measuring up 2005 .

Our region – their future looked at each of the topics covered in the Regional Policy Statement, the success of the Regional Policy Statement as reported in Measuring up 2005, and Greater Wellington’s assessment of the issues now and into the future. For each topic, a series of questions is posed about whether the issues are the right ones and how things should be managed.
