Wetland advocacy and further information

National:  The National Wetland Trust was set up in 1999 to increase New Zealanders’ appreciation of wetlands and their values. The Trust organises biannual forums around the country on wetland restoration for landowners and community groups. Trust members receive quarterly newsletters.

International:  The Ramsar Convention (also called the Convention on Wetlands) was signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971. It is an intergovernmental treaty which encourages national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. New Zealand is one of the 150 countries that has signed the convention.

Wetland management plan templates:  Environment Waikato has developed a useful management plan template to help landowners manage and restore wetlands on their properties.
