Rabbit control for camp ground

From 21 July 2008, Greater Wellington will be conducting a rabbit control operation in the campground area of Kaitoke Regional Park.

Parts of the campground are showing the effects of high rabbit numbers, with excessive droppings, rabbit warrens and damage to native seedlings.

Carrot bait coated with the anticoagulant poison Pindone will be used to control rabbits. The bait will be dyed green to identify it as a poison and to deter birds from eating it. The bait will be spread by hand throughout the operational area.

The public are required to keep dogs on leads while visiting the area.

Further details of the operational area and precautions that must be followed are noted on warning signs at all entrances to the Park.

For further information contact Greater Wellington Biosecurity Department, Upper Hutt, phone 04 5265327.
