As well as hearing submissions, the hearings sub-committee also considered the results of a survey (1.9MB,PDF) carried out as part of the public consultation ont he draft plan. The survey took place between 14 June and 6 July 2008 and involved a total of 776 residents and 263 businesses. In October the corridor plan will be formally approved by the three project partners, the NZ Transport Agency, Wellington City Council and Greater Wellington. The plan will be presented to the Regional Land Transport Committee for formal adoption in October, and will become part of the Regional Land Transport Programme. The draft Ngauranga to Airport Corridor Plan, (798KB, PDF) aims to make it easier for you to travel, whether you're taking public transport, driving, walking or cycling. As well as improvements for day to day travelling, the draft plan aims to cater for the future transport needs of our growing population. About 30,000 more people are expected to be living in Wellington by 2026. The draft plan has been developed by Transit NZ, Wellington City Council and Greater Wellington. It is a culmination of about three years of studies, technical investigations and consultation. Firstly, we identified issues for the corridor. Then we developed some possible solutions such as better public transport, more efficient use of existing roads, some new roading initiatives and easier and safer walking and cycling routes. We then asked what solutions people preferred. We studied your preferred options and they are at the core of the draft plan. |
