Walkers enjoying the park
With its outstanding views and grassy open areas, Whitireia Park is popular for walking, running, orienteering, mountain biking, rock climbing, model plane flying, canoeing, fishing, kitesurfing, diving, picnicking and swimming.
Since the devastating fire in early 2010, there has also been a surge in community support for tree planting. Working bees are organised by the Whitireia Park Restoration Group.
Walking and running
The 5.5 km Onepoto loop track running up the hill from Onehunga Bay then down through the inland valley and circling back along the coast to Onehunga Bay is a very popular walk and has recently been upgraded by GWRC. It takes approximately 2 hours to complete this loop walk.
Please keep your dog under control and remove droppings.
Swimming
Whitireia Park is very popular with families because of its safe swimming beaches.
