Public feedback shapes new station
Upper Hutt public transport users are celebrating their wonderful, brand new gateway to the city thanks in large part to the community asking us to improve their railway station.
The new station, completed late last year, provides a modern transport hub for Upper Hutt. The station is a total transformation from what was a very old, tired building to your new stunning, bright, modern one.
Special features of the station are its architectural exterior design reflecting the style of the new housing developments throughout the city and a train emerging from the tunnel; a light, modern waiting room and ticket office; a coffee kiosk that people can access from inside and outside; public toilets and sheltered seating right around the building and high quality CCTV cameras.
Station designers explored the possibility of refurbishing the old station, but concluded it was easier and cheaper to start from scratch.
“It’s a much needed face-lift for the centre of town which will serve public transport users for years to come,” says Regional Councillor Paul Swain.
This significant investment in your new Upper Hutt transport hub has been achieved through funding from Upper Hutt City Council, the Regional Council and the NZ Transport Agency.
