Pedal power in QEP
Like an easy introduction to cycling in Queen Elizabeth Park? Then come along this Sunday and join the kids from the Paekakariki Primary School Pedallers club who are helping out with Pedalling in the Park.
This is the third year that this family friendly biking activity has featured on the Wellington regional parks’ Great Outdoors Summer Events programme.
More than 50 people turned up for the event last year, which began with a short ride especially for younger children. This included a big element of play in the ride: riding through creeks and rolling their wheels down hills.
”Making things fun is a large part of making biking attractive for beginner riders” says Jan Nisbet a local cyclist enthusiast.
Options range from an easy 1km ride on the flat to a 4km or 8km loop. Highlights of the 4km and 8km rides include riding through the creeks, checking out the blackberry patches and visiting the ponies at the Stables in the Park. There are also jumps for those who want a bit more challenge.
Pedalling in the Park is just one of many events around the region celebrating Parks Week - Get Healthy by Nature (2-8 March 2013). It is suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness.
