Parks Network Strategy
Background
The Greater Wellington Parks Network Strategy articulates a vision and a purpose for our parks and forests. It will be the overarching framework for their future development and management.
The purpose of the strategy is to:
- Provide guidance to the next generation of policy and planning documents for our regional parks and forests (this is outlined below).
- Provide a basis for promoting the regional parks
Where are we now?
Firstly, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the development of the Parks Network Strategy. This includes current and potential parks users that were canvassed via interviews with individuals and a wide range of groups and organisations including government and non-government agencies, Friends of Parks, special interest groups and community sectors.
Greater Wellington has considered feedback, research and background information (see documents on the right), and developed a Parks Network Strategy, which includes the purpose, vision, goals, objectives and guiding principles for regional parks and forests. The draft strategy was adopted formally by Council on 11 November 2009. The draft strategy has been incorporated Greater Wellington Parks Network Plan - Draft, which is currently out for public consultation.

Developing a consolidated network plan for parks
The development of a draft parks network plan is part of a process for bringing all of Greater Wellington’s parks and forests management plans into one document. Find out more about GW's process to develop a consolidated parks network plan.
