Our Māori name

The Māori name for Greater Wellington Regional Council – Te Pane Matua Taiao - reflects the leadership role of GWRC within the region.

Te Pane – Crown of the head where leadership qualities reside / Matua – parent, senior

Taiao – environment, world

The name also aligns with the four koru in GWRC’s logo, which when unfurled become a four-feathered Raukura that is placed in the topknot of the hair, another symbol of leadership.
