Wainuiomata Landfill
Notification of an application for Resource Consent WGN100226 under Section 95 of the Resource Management Act 1991.
Greater Wellington Regional Council has received the following application for resource consent.

Proposal:
To discharge contaminants to land, air and water associated with the operation of the Wainuiomata Landfill and its remediation. The continued operation of the landfill will be for five additional years; other permits are required for the remediation of the landfill after its closure.
Consents applied for:
- Discharge permit – to discharge contaminants to land from the operation, construction and maintenance of a landfill.
- Discharge permit – to discharge stormwater and contaminated surface water to a tributary of Wainuiomata River.
- Discharge permit – to discharge fugitive leachate arising from Wainuiomata Landfill to groundwater.
- Water permit – to take groundwater contaminated with leachate for removal and treatment at a wastewater treatment plant.
- Discharge permit – to discharge contaminants (including odour, dust and landfill gas) to air arising from the operation and on-going remediation of Wainuiomata landfill.
- Land use consent – to disturb earth on erosion prone land for landfilling activities such as daily cover, final cover, drainage works and roading.
