New parks
Whitireia Park
Greater Wellington is due to take over management of Whitireia Park on 1 March 2011. Activities to date have included:
- Assisiting the Friends of Onehunga Bay and Whitireia Park Board members with spinifex plantings
- Assessing grazing practices as part of developing a sustainable land use plan. This will assist long-term management of grazing at the park and provide a benchmark for the Park Board
- Patching and repairs to sealed road surfaces
- Aerial gorse spraying in parts of the park burnt by the fire in early 2010. A second gorse control operation will be carried out in April 2011.
East Harbour Regional Park - Baring Head
Baring Head was officially opened on Sunday 13 February 2011. Everyone is now welcome to visit. You can download a brochure with a map and more informationhere.
Community consultation is currently underway on the future of Baring Head. This will inform development of the new management plan for the area.
