What Greater Wellington is offering
GW is offering you an alternative to purchase insulation and/or clean heat. It is offered to all ratepayers in conjunction with the EECA Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme. As a ratepayer you can apply for up to $2600 (including GST) towards an approved Heat Smart solution. This is paid back with interest over 9 years through your property’s rates. To see what you might be paying back, look at the table below. This increase on your rates will not start until a new rates year.

The interest rate will be set at 7% for this first year. Thereafter it is subject to change.
CONDITIONS: To be eligible for this financial assistance you must
- Be a ratepayer,
- Be up to date with your rate payments, and
- Have a house built prior to 2000 and be receiving an EECA grant
How to apply
- Get in touch with an EECA approved service provider. Contactable via their website www.energywise.govt.nz or ph: 0800 358 676.
- An installer will assess your home free of charge and provide options to fit insulation and heating. (You may wish to get more than one quote).
- The service provider will outline the funding options available to you through both EECA and GW, and your selected service provider will help you complete the application form.
The process that follows
- If you choose to apply for GW financial assistance, send us your application and agreement along with the service providers quote in the supplied freepost envelope (all of which the service provider will supply you).
- If your rates are up to date we will approve your application within 2 working days of receipt and send you confirmation.
- We will also notify your service provider of this confirmation.
- When your installation is completed the service provider invoices EECA and GW. We both pay our agreed contributions to the service provider with any outstanding amount payable by you.
- GW will add your additional rating increase to your property’s Land Information Memorandum (LIM).
