Getting Involved with the Otaki River
The Otaki community caring for the river environment 
A key vehicle for the implementation of the Otaki River Environmental Strategy was the establishment of the Friends of the Otaki River. The Friends work with GW on the implementation of the floodplain management plan, to monitor the day-to-day flood protection activities in the river and to consider ways to enhance the environment.
GW provides support to the Friends to help them achieve these goals. The Friends do environmental enhancement projects using the Environmental Strategy as a guide. The group has been actively replanting the Otaki River estuary, and have put in hundreds of coastal native plants
