Fishing is available in both fresh water and salt water in our regional parks. A licence is required in some areas and there is more information on this below:

Fishing in the Hutt River

The Hutt River is an excellent trout fishery, and easily reached via the Hutt River Trail or service roads. Popular spots include the section from Silverstream to Moonshine bridge and Melling to Kennedy Good bridge.

Salt water fishing is popular on and downstream of the Hutt Estuary bridge.

You must have a fishing licence. These are available from sporting goods stores or from Fish and Game New Zealand.

Fishing at Queen Elizabeth park

Surfcasting is allowed along the beach at Queen Elizabeth park.
