Environmental Science

Greater Wellington monitors the quality and quantity of the regions air, land and water resources over time. We carry out long-term monitoring across the region, as well as short-term research and investigations where information gaps or potential problems are identified.

Why do we monitor the environment?

Greater Wellington Regional Council monitors the environment:

• As a requirement of the Resource Management Act
• To observe and interpret impacts
• To develop policies and plans and guide resource consents decisions
• To convey information to the wider community
• to inform biodiversity management
