Environmental Protection Officer

The Environmental Regulation Department is responsible for resource consent, compliance and enforcement functions, as well as pollution prevention and control across the Wellington region. 

We are looking for someone to join our Wellington based Environmental Protection Team, which provides a 24 hour environmental incident response service for the region.  Our team also works with businesses to improve their environmental performance, monitors and enforces unconsented activities, undertakes some resource consent compliance work, and conducts detailed investigations into specific environmental problems.

 Ideally you should have:

  • A passion for the environment and a solid understanding of the causes, effects and management of environmental pollution
  • A technical background in environmental science or chemical engineering
  • Work experience in a compliance auditing and regulatory role
  • Familiarity with the Resource Management Act 1991
  • Sound judgement and excellent customer service skills
  • The desire and ability to work with businesses and the community to reduce their impacts on our environment

 While we’d prefer you to have some experience, if you have the right qualifications and show real potential, along with a common sense approach and a sense of humour,  we’ll be more than happy to train you.
