Environmental honours up for grabs
Greater Wellington Environmental Awards presentation 2009

- When: Wednesday 2 December from 5.45pm – 8pm (presentation from 6.30pm)
Greater Wellington’s 2009 environmental awards will be presented this Wednesday with community groups, businesses and schools from Waikanae to Greytown vying for top honours.
The awards recognise and reward the work of community volunteers, business and schools working with Greater Wellington to enhance threatened ecosystems or minimise the impact of their own activities.
Winners receive a certificate, a native tree and a prize of $500 towards their environmental projects.
The finalists in each award category are:
Meridian School Sustainable Project Award
For schools working with us to improve the health of the environment or promote sustainability through environmental education

Meridian School Environmental Leadership Award
Recognises a person’s leadership on a school-wide environmental project that involves students as active participants

Nikau Compliance Award
Recognises consent holders with Greater Wellington who go above and beyond the conditions of their consent, and develop innovative and inspiring solutions to reduce the impact of their activities on the environment

Environmental Protection Award
Acknowledges small and medium-sized businesses working with us to prevent pollution and improve environmental management.

For businesses working with us to improve their environmental performance and reduce their carbon emissions

Recognises the contribution of a community member who has been working with us to improve the environmental health of their community and the Wellington region
