Dogs in the parks

Dog walking is encouraged in most of the regional parks. However access is limited in some parks due to various reasons such as lambing or animal protection. Here is a list of where dogs are allowed in the parks:

Akatarawa Forest

Keep dogs under control at all times. No dogs on the Cannon Point walkway as it crosses private land.

Battle Hill Farm Forest Park

Dogs are not permitted, including those in vehicles

Belmont Regional Park

Dogs are permitted in the Korokoro, Stratton St and Dry Creek valleys. No dogs on or near farmland.

East Harbour Regional Park

Keep your dog under control at all times, and on a leash south of Burdans Gate

Hutt River Trail

Dogs are allowed on the Trail but must be under control and on leads where signs state. Please remove droppings.

Hutt Water Collection Area

Dogs are welcome. Please keep them under control and remove droppings

Kaitoke Forest
Tracks closed for dog-walking. Please note that Ridge Track and Hutt Water Collection Area Access Track are closed for dog-walking until further notice. 1080 poison bait has been laid in this area to control possums. 1080 poison is extremely toxic to dogs. Please obey all warning signs. Do not bring your dog to this area until the signs have been removed.

Pakuratahi Forest

Dogs are welcome. Keep them under control and remove droppings. Dogs must be leashed in the tunnels.

WARNING: Closed for dog-walking until further notice (except the mown grassed area of the Tunnel Gully Recreation Reserve). 1080 poison bait has been laid in this area to control possums. 1080 poison is extremely toxic to dogs. Please obey all warning signs. Do not bring your dog to this area until the signs have been removed.

Queen Elizabeth Park

Please keep your dog under control and on a leash in the picnic areas. Please remove all droppings.

Wainuiomata Recreation Area

Dogs are welcome. Please keep them under control and remove droppings.

Wainuiomata Water Collection Area

Dogs are not permitted in the water collection area.

Dogs are welcome. Please keep them under control and remove droppings.
