NIWA

NIWA has a unique location on Evan Bays which is one of the reasons for having around 1 in 5 staff cycle to work. Their travel plan has supported staff to be active, take public transport and carpool to work and these actions have a good fit with scientific work NIWA does.

 Department of Conservation

DOC has converted parks into carpool priority parks, installed a new cycle cage and installed webcams and video conferencing to reduce business travel. They had public transport tickets and umbrellas available at reception for staff. These actions have led to an increase rates or sustainable modes at their head office. They were also awarded the Govt3 best travel plan implementation in 2009.

Hutt City Council

Hutt City Council initially proposed a large number of actions in their travel plan (see attachment Part I), with management requesting further information on a few initiatives that involved costs (attachment Part II).  In this second report, the use of car parks for carpooling was not approved but the public transport subsidy, use of public transport for business purposes, inclusion of cycling in the Wellness Policy and replacement of a fleet car with a scooter was. Around a year later, the follow up report showed an 11% decrease in driving alone and that the public transport subsidy had cost less than expected.

Greater Wellington's Go Smart Travel Plan

Victoria University of Wellington

Victoria University surveyed their staff and students in 2007 and worked through an in-depth consultation process to finalise this travel plan. Their travel plan includes improvements to walking route in and around campus, cycle parking facilities and the inter-campus bus service. Significant changes to parking management are also part of the plan, as the long waiting list for parking permits was a key driver for the travel plan.
