Bus & Ferry Services Procurement Strategy

The overall goal of Greater Wellington's procurement strategy for bus and harbour ferry services is to help us deliver on our service targets in a way that ensures value for money.

Greater Wellington aim to provide 50 million public transport trips per year by 2016/17. To meet this target, patronage will need to increase by an average 4.7% per year. Currently patronage is increasing at about 3.3% per year.

Greater Wellington's procurement of public transport services is done in accordance with a procedure approved by the NZ Transport Agency. Legislation requires procurement procedures to be "designed to obtain best value for money" and encourage "competitive and efficient markets". Our procurement strategies need to show how we plan to meet these legal requirements.
