Current bus routes - 7, 8, 9
New bus routes - H, H1, I, J, J1
New bus network is to provide more frequent daytime link to Wellington and Newtown (I), Owhiro Bay and Island Bay (H) and Kowhai Park (J). Brooklyn Library is to become a local hub for connections between bus routes.
Higher capacity buses will be introduced on the new route (I) to meet demand and reduce bus congestion in the city.
Proposed service levels are as follows:
These services will be supplemented by peak trips between Brooklyn Library and Wellington. Route (H1) is proposed to provide 4 afternoon peak trips and 3 morning peak trips, and route (J1) will provide 5 trips each for both afternoon and morning peak.
Connections will be improved between Brooklyn and Newtown with buses to depart every 30 minutes during the day Monday to Saturday and hourly during evenings and Sundays (currently only a limited service route 29 running less than hourly connects Brooklyn and Newtown). Timed connections to and from Kowhai Park are also proposed.
New bus route (J) will service Kowhai Park, with Brooklyn Library a local hub for connections between bus routes. During the off-peak buses would hub at Brooklyn Library while at peak time direct services to Wellington will be retained (J1).
Proposed service levels are as follows:
During the off-peak, timed connections are provided at Brooklyn Library for travel to and from Wellington. As most Kowhai Park buses will not travel through to the city, smaller buses are planned to be used.
